Maple Fireplace Mantel Surround

I was contracted to build a mantel surround from maple for a marble gas fired fireplace. Fire code restrictions and limited wall space made this a very challenging project. My client supplied me with an image of a design they found on the web, I used the pic to sketch out the proportions and began production. My biggest concern was when the mantel was finished the crown and mantel cap would not extend past the edge of the wall. Measure twice cut once is something you hear alot in woodworking in this case I measured a half dozen times before cutting and thankfully ended up with a 1/4" to spare on each side.I then stained the mantel to match their existing built in.

Donna's Christmas Present

I was contracted to build a fireplace mantel surround out of poplar. I had a picture of a mantel I had done a while back and my client Donna had an image from the web, we took the features she liked from both and combined them to create this surround. The week before Christmas I removed the old mantel and took the final measurements and was asked if it would be possible to have it done for the holiday. I said I can't guarantee it but will try my best. I intstalled the surround with the help of my Dad the morning of Christmas Eve.
